A Path to Advocacy
Like many advocates, I came to this work as a parent first. I did not have a formal background as a teacher or administrator. I had been working in account management for a Fortune 500 company before my second child was born and subsequently diagnosed with a disability.
Shortly after our first IEP meeting, I began my training to become an advocate. I believe that a parent will always be the best advocate for their child and that principle guides my practice. When working with our children's educational teams we must presume competence, offer respect and develop true partnerships to achieve the outcomes we desire. There are many scenarios where it is beneficial to add an advocate or consultant to the team. As your child's advocate, my role is not limited to attending an IEP meeting. Our children are complex and the solutions for their success must be comprehensive. Often this means more than just a perfectly written IEP or 504.
Give me a call and lets discuss how I might be able to help!
